I found this to be a lovely synopsis on grief within given, and honestly challenge you to take it a bit further with analyzing the college students of the band and what we see of them in the movie. This series quickly became one of my favorites due to the fact that it’s far more than what you’d thing a BL would be at times. It felt refreshing for me that the queerness wasn’t the main point(hey, I love me a good gay love story) but it’s shown in a way that I feel queerness should be shown? More normalized and not made to be a spectacle(as much as it can be in other media). The twist really changes your entire perspective on these characters and their lives and makes them so much more real. It’s a reason why I love it. Thank you for talking about this series!!
I loved that about it as well! How they are gay and that does define their relationships and who they are, BUT they're more than that. Of course, it is a big part of the story, but it's done in such a classy way that it doesn't feel like one of those "woe is me, I'm homosexual" but like "yeah haha I'm gay so what's for lunch" kind of vibes if that makes sense xD so yes, they feel realer than what a BL warrants at times.
After watching it the first time I legitimately cried in episode 9, that had me rewatching his song and playing it in the background ngl. What was your initial thoughts on watching, like when they play the song and everything hits a metaphorical ceiling fan of emotion?
I’m a huge sap and will cry at the drop of a hat so yes, I cried so much when that happened and you learned of what happened with his ex. It really struck a chord within me because, as you mentioned, the signs were all there that he was depressed and as an audience we were still blind to it. As someone who has also struggled deeply with depression, I felt even kind of bad that o didn’t notice or think of this possibility for this character (and maybe even people I’ve met in real life too). It was jaw dropping and heart wrenching to say the least but all of that made his journey towards forgiveness that much more impactful.
Shay 😭
